Popped in the first time today. The guy who took my order was so nice. The fries and pita chips were so light, crisp, and airy without being too oily. The pita chips must have been the best I've ever had. The falafel gyro was nice and simple without being basic. Fresh juice was refreshing.
Never disappointed, the food is always fresh and delicious. Highly recommend.
One of my favorite places to order from. I always get the lamb and rice! Great portion size and great tasting food.
Gyro King's combo over rice is so tasty, I love it with red and white sauce. The lamb and chicken is always tender. If I could have gyro everyday I would.
The service as well as food is amazing here! My relative has allergies so I left a message with Gyro King's manager asking if there were any foods that were available for my relative because of his allergies. The manager replied within minutes and I am so thankful. The food is great and this is my go-to place for eating out.
Very good food and quick service. The only bad thing is that it is too convenient and I spend too much money there
Excellent food, fresh and fast!! Prices match portions. Great service and friendly atmosphere..I hope this place grows big and a chain will open in my area of spring..lol
Dude this place is off the hook. I drive 35 miles one way just for chicken over rice and Gyro. Definitely recommend.
Delicious! chicken salad is what I had.Absolutely amazing. Service was great too!
Food always taste fresh, good portions, not expensive, and quick service.
Fresh food always. Good amount for the price
Unbelievably Great Gyros. Had the #4 combo Gyro meal deal amazing lamb and chicken mixed Gyro. Love the seasoning!! The fries are to die for, they come with simple salt and pepper and ketchup which is awesome. They are made just right crispy out side muchy center. Tried my wife's #20. Combo salad, heaven on earth! Falafel is made just right. Just a great place in general cant go wrong.
Great food, friendly staff. Definitely going there couple of times a month.
Excellent service, friendly, combo was amazing. Fresh, great quality, and price. Will be back!
Fantastic food and service. I recommend for local teachers!
Nice and friendly staff. Clean area. Give plenty of food but have tasted better food that they offer.
Gyros are good. Extra meat is only 2 dollars. They also do uber eats.
The food and hospitality was great - one of a kind! Quality is absolutely wonderful and the quantity served is even better. I would recommend it to everyone to check it out. Would love to go there again whenever I am in Houston.
Awesome Gyro Lamb. They don't hold back on the meat at all!!! I go to the Food Truck at OST!
Staff are all friendly and the food definitely beats Jones and halal guys. Very clean inside and out. I'm glad I tried it out. My new goto spot for the lamb and rice.
Ordered the #7 chicken and lamb over rice combo to go. The lamb was so flavorful and the chicken was delicious, it was by far worth every penny. Will definitely be back soon!
Service and food were great. The manager helped me to navigate the new menu and suggested the perfect juice. Fast service as well.
Lamb over rice is better than halal guys anyway! We always go here for for our lamb over rice fix.
I finally decided to give this place another try because the last time I was there was around their grand opening days. I wrote a bad review before, but today's visit definitely changed my mind! I got the lamb gyro and it was great! Right amount of sauce and flavor, with warm soft pita. The guy who helped me was also very friendly and kept me assured that my food will be done shortly. The fries.. I'm not too thrilled about. But I'll definitely be back to try their juices!
Best lamb over rice in Houston! Halal Guys got nothing on Gyro King!
The manager there has really turned the place around. I went for lunch and was in an out faster than a commercial break. They had every thing clean, fresh and ready.
Service was great. Food was great. What else do you want
Wayyayyyyyyy better than the Halal Guy's. I get the lamb over rice with extra cucumber sauce and hot sauce. The food is fresh, properly seasoned. It has late hours. The place is clean and brightly lit.
A great place to make a late night run in the hwy6 area.
Great food, large servings, clean and pleasing atmosphere. The drinks are also great.
I am a big fan of middle eastern food and this is a NY style Mediterranean food. I've tried all their platters and love everything on the menu. My favorite is lamb over rice and mix over rice but chapli kabob over rice is nice too if you like spicy. I usually get the sauce on the side because the hot sauce is spicy. The white sauce is so delicious yumm. If you want to go healthy...try it with salad instead of rice but all the meat over rice platter comes with good amount of veggies like lettuce, chickpeas, cucumbers, olives, and tiny pieces of pickled carrots and cauliflower. This is my go to place if I can't decide what to eat. It is healthy and delicious! I would recommend this place to all halalies looking for great NY style middle eastern food in H-town.
Good portions, decent price, flavorful rice, a good variety of vegetables, very tasty gyro and chicken, and both the white and red sauce compliment the dishes well. They're right, they are better.
Customer service and food were awesome! I will definitely be going back. Management was continuously checking to make sure everything was good...enjoyed it.
Very nice place saif and the owner made service awesome , Great Falafel Enjoyed I will be coming here often
I've been to this place a couple of times now. There combo plate is delicious. A combination of lamb/beef and chicken on top of there long grain aromatic, fluffy rice. Plus they add sides of shredded lettuce, chick peas, tomato and cucumber. Then smother everything with a yogurt based sauce to tie everything together. The saltines of the meat makes your mouth salivate while the rice and veggies balances out so it doesn't over power your taste bud. Then the yogurt just keeps everything moist with a little bit of tartness to it. It's something one has to try at least once before judging it. The best I've tasted so far.
Good portions, descent price, flavorful rice, a good variety of vegetables, very tasty gyro and chicken, and both the white and red sauce compliment the dishes well. They're right, they are better.
Gyro king is amazing. First time trying and boy were the gyros delicious. I got the lamb gyro and left me wanting to get another. Very delicious and will be paying another visit soon!
First time here and it was great! I ordered lamb over rice and my friend ordered a gyro sandwich... I also ordered a fruit juice drink, everything was good including the customer service... I'll definitely be back...
Never had a Gyro before. Went in, the service was great! I told the guy that I had never had a gyro or even tried lamb and he was nice enough to give me a small sample to try. Food was out quickly, and it was great! Also, if you've never had a gyro before give it a try! They're great!
This place is literally the bomb! Forget about Halal Guys, Gyro King is where it's at. The chicken and lamb combo is so flavorful and delicious that I can eat it every day. Compare that to Halal Guys (Houston) which has absolutely no flavor at all and you will never go back. The service is real quick and I'd recommend asking for the white and red sauce on the side. That way you can put however much you want, whenever you want. The only complaint that I have to say is that the portions are on the smaller side. This food is so good that I want to be given a hefty portion! I also wouldn't recommend getting the gyro fries. They're just thick cut fries with gyro meat on them and no sort of dressing whatsoever. It was kind of boring, but the gyro meat was delicious. Overall, I'd definitely come back here for the combo. It is the best that I've had since eating at Halal Guys (New York).
Gyro King is amazing, and the fact that it is a lot closer to me than other similar establishments makes this place a real winner.
Chicken and Lamb over rice is what I usually get, and it is amazing. Both meats are flavorful and aren't dry. The rice is season well and the white sauce is just too good. The fresh vegetables really help break up the strong flavors and provide a crisp freshness with the meal. The corn in particular really does wonders to enhance everything. There's also a random pickle there, but I just ignore it. The red sauce isn't as hot as other places, so it is very enjoyable.
The restaurant itself is located next to a Kroger's along Highway 6, pretty much at the border of Alief and Sugarland. Inside is very bright and colorful and always remains very clean. Although I always get takeout, dining in would also be a pleasant option.
I love this type of food, and I am thrilled that I don't have to drive into town anymore to enjoy it. So unless I really want some fried chicken from Jones, Gyro King will be my go to place for some tasty chicken and lamb over rice. It will always hit the spot!
fresh and healthy food we all enjoyed today 08 19 2016
It's not a bad place or a wow factor food. This is NY street food. Chicken over rice is awesome with nice white sauce and it will hit your spot. On the other hand their gyro is ok as it is salty and you can tell it is from Sysco or restaurant depot frozen product. Chapli kabob lack flavors and nothing to excite about even after they deep fried it has no flavor. Deep fried Twinkies and it will give you a flavor but not their Chapli kabob.
Anyway my fellow yelpers as always "if it's look good eat it".
To say I'm obsessed with this place is an understatement. I used to frequent the truck in med center quite a bit when I used to work near there. So you can imagine my excitement when they opened up a storefront in Sugar Land. Although I haven't actually been to this location, I've catered from here 3 times in the past 4 months....Like i said, obsessed.
I most recently catered from them last weekend. Delivery was super convenient, and they only charge 5 dollars outside a 5-mile radius. The food was absolutely delicious (as usual) and the portions are very large. I usually get the combo, chicken and lamb over rice. I can't say which one is better, the chicken or the lamb, because both are pretty solid. There's lots of flavor in both the meat and the rice. It definitely has alot more flavor, and the portions are much larger than Halal Guys. It's also a lot less greasy than Jones, so you don't get that sick, bloated feeling afterwards
The meal came with salad and plenty of white sauce and hot sauce. The staff and delivery guy were very friendly and accommodating.
Shrimp over Rice, combo over rice, & lamb gyro was absolutely amazing! This food is consistently delicious and each bite is to die for! Customer service & management are very frendly, we'll always come back each time we are in Houston!!!
Pretty good! I've had it from the truck too. Just this location is new. Seems a lil scattered. But nice staff. N foods consistent.
This place was delicious and a pleasant surprise to find in a grocery store strip mall! The staff is super knowledgeable and happy to make suggestions
Gyro King was AWESOME! We have been to 6 different chicken over rice shops searching for the same experience we had at New York halal guys. Everyone does it a bit differently and that's okay.
The meat was what really earned the 5 stars at Gyro King. Super tender, super flavorful, especially the lamb/beef. White/red sauces were great complement and actually went well with the salad. I had high expectations coming in to GK and they were not let down.
***we came at a slow time and only tried the platters
I've only had this and Halal Guys once, but from my experience, this place beats Halal Guys. There wasn't anything that great about HG, if the food was good, I'd remember it. But I vaguely remember it or liking it. Anyway, my bf and I came here and we weren't as hungry as we usually are so we shared a 'combo over rice' which had lamb, beef and chicken. It was a good amount for 2 ppl. Maybe a dollar or 2 more than HG but I think you also get a little more. And spicy sauce doesn't compare to how spicy HG's is. Little shop open late for when you're looking for a late night bite.
Yes yes like everyone said Gyro King is better than Halal Guys. They have a lot more variety and fresh juices to enjoy with your meal. Jones Fried Chicken is not even in the picture cause that place is dirty af.
Rice platter - the white sauce here isn't as creamy/heavy and the red sauce isn't SPICY compared to Halal Guys. There's only 1 size platter which is the white, square styrofoam togo box. I didn't think I'd finish it entirely in one sitting, but I did. All by my hungry self. The addition of assorted veggies (lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, pickles, chickpea, corn, olives, cauliflower...I think that's all) is a plus because fiber lol. It's like a chipotle bowl x 10! Just be sure to let them know if you don't prefer any of the mentioned veggies.
One thing that rubbed me the wrong way was the worker's attitude & demeanor. She seemed like she hated her job and me being in her presence made me hate her job for her. Sorry not sorry?
On a brighter note, they close late (12 am or 2 am). Yayy for closer late night munchies run for some lamb & chicken over rice :D
First time here! I was in love! I ordered the combo over rice and man let me tell u, it's big! I figured hey it's not that big cuz it's in a to go box but boy was I wrong! They load tons of meat and rice in there! My plate alone could have easy fed two ppl! I was soooo stuffed but I wasn't ashamed of it at all! It was that good! The sauce is good and they put how much ever u want on it! I got the red sauce on the side but because I had never been there before but next time I go, I'm smothering it! White sauce and red sauce!! I had only had tried jones before in the southwest but having found this place, I definitely feel like this is way better! The customer service was on point too! The cashier was aware that it was my first time and she was super helpful with everything! Even the ppl there eating were nice! Lol I had left my keys at the counter and a lady was quick to give them to me! The place isn't huge but it's a decent size. Don't go bringing a party of 18 ppl tho! From what I saw the place was clean. I just can't get over what I ate tho! Soooo good! Damnit I think I'll be giving them my paycheck so good lol
A very solid four stars. Found this place on seamless, which was a God send because there are VERY FEW options for delivery where we are in Richmond. The chicken and rice platter rivals some of the best halal carts I've tried in NYC. My wife says she likes the falafel better than famous mahmouns in the west village (I haven't tried yet to compare) but I'm very pleased so far. I will be a regular customer
fresh clean healthy friendly and so so so close to home! WHERE HAVE U BEEN ALL MY LIFE!
This place is so dank. I ordered the lamb over rice and my girl got the chicken over rice. From the start it was already lit af. My total came out to be $20.02 and the cool ass cashier said $20 was fine. Automatic boost right there cuh. They charged me $2.70 for 2 water bottles but that's normal at halal places so it's whatever. The lamb over rice was good, I'm not big over olives but I didn't know it came with it. If you don't fux with olives make sure you tell them when you order. The chicken was on fleek too. This joint is small though but it works. It doesn't get hella packed den a mugg which I like. This hoe compared to jones fried chicken is at an equal match. Why spend $9 at some trash place like tout suite when you can spend $8 for better tasting food. I'll be coming here a lot more often for my halal fix. It's location is dope too, right next to the gym, grocery store, and bank so if you're lifting or running errands then you gotta hit this hoe up to grub. Clean environment and has multiple tv's. Down to Earth staff that's very friendly unlike other places. No hipster booshiet so it's hella dope. Jugg.
This hidden gem is just like jones fried chicken and the halal guys but closer to the suburbs *winning*. I order online for a schedule pick up at 3pm. I get there and the food wasn't made, I had to wait about 10 mins when I wanted my food at specific time (call me bougie idc). But overall the staff was friendly. Wasn't busy for a Thursday afternoon. The food was pretty good, they can hold off on all the seasoning they put on the meat so it won't be as salty. But everything else was fine!
Aik dummm numberrrr one
The guy at the counter recommended the combo platter - chicken over salad and lamb over rice. The chicken was dry, but when doused in the red sauce it became a pretty good Buffalo chicken salad. The lamb chunks were amazing, and the rice was very good. I kind of expected, for no particular reason, that the platter would come with pita bread. But when I unpacked the food at the hotel, there was no pita bread to be seen.
There were two things I didn't care for. One is the location. It's in the parking lot of a Chevron gas station, which isn't bad by itself, but some of the people that hang out here are pretty sketchy. As soon as I got my food, some drug-addled boy was hitting me up for $20. The other thing is that they don't take American Express. The food simply isn't at a low enough price-point where they should be selective about what credit cards they accept.
The gyro over rice amazing. I like how thick and chunky the lamb meat is, not like Jones or halal guys all diced and minced up. Gyro king does it better.
Food is always good quality, service is good. Only weak point is the hot sauce. Can be hotter...
Really enjoy the chicken over rice here, the lamb is too salty. I always need lots of water after eating the lamb. The white sauce is the bomb dot com, I like ranch dressing, so I'm biased. Their falafel is quite good too, not usually a fan of falafel but they do it well. I usually flip my chicken over rice over and mix it all up with the side veggies and make a halal equivalent of the chipotle burrito bowl. Done.
Give this place a chance and check it out. Lamb/chicken combo over rice. CHEAP AND GOOD with much better flavor (especially the chicken) than halal guys. I would have given this a five star but we were disappointed when my wife asked for a gyro sandwich. Instead, all they did was took the meat from their lamb over rice and made a sandwich out of it. They didn't put actual sliced gyro meat.
I haven't had actual food from here. But their tiramisu OMG. It's so good. Not too sweet. Perfect amount of coffee. And their white sauce and hot are delicious too. They go with everything.
Honestly this place is just like Halal Guys except a little better. I got the Combo Over Rice that had beef and chicken which was really good. I would recommend this place to everyone who likes goo do halal fast food kind of food.
It's nice to see more diverse dining/takeout options in my neck of the woods. I've ordered the chicken and the lamb over salad, and both have been satisfying. They add a good amount of giardiniera, beneath the mound of meat in their salad. I've tried the Lamb over rice, and although the rice is IMO, under seasoned, they do not skimp on the portions of tasty meat. They seriously load 'em up!
good late night food, juices are great, the staff is friendly ! i recommend the chicken over rice with a cup of fresh juice.
I came here on opening day, I sampled ordered the menu - was cheap so a little of everything I ordered - was good value and flavor.
I leave so full I forgot they didn't bring the Baklava. But regardless I'll give them 5 stars for the gyros - about time we had a good place ,Ike this in Houston - load up on the sauce and enjoy. I'll come back to collect my dessert one day ! You owe me!
Very delicious food and decent portions and not pricey.
I love their lamb gyro so much they are amazing my brother loves their lamb over rice so definitely go try those if you go
Excellent food , great taste and good customer service . Every time I come here I never get disappointed .
Very good, I had the lamb and chicken over rice. And the juices are great and refreshing. Restaurant was clean and service was great. I will be coming back again.
I'm a huge fan of Gyros, so I was skeptical if Gyro King was really the King of Gyro's.. My first visit I had the Lamb Gyro and I was very impressed with both the quality and quantity of this amazing meal!! when I opened up the wrapping and saw this wonderful gyro bursting with lamb I knew this was for real and I was in for a treat... I devoured it. My second meal was the combo over rice and I would say this is my favorite so far, It's plenty of full flavored chicken and lamb over delicious rice with a side salad... not to put the gyro down at all but the combo over rice was just straight magnificent. My recommendation is if you have some time to sit down and eat for a bit get the combo over rice but if you're in the rush and want something you can eat with your hands the lamb gyro is perfect!!
I love their lamb gyro so much they are amazing I tried halal guys they don't have much taste I love gyro King much better my brother loves their lamb over rice so definitely go try those if you go
Fairly new place, love to see how this place develops. I was recommended by a friend to try the Lamb over rice and Gyro Fries
Lamb over rice was like a 7/10 for me, fairly plentiful portions of lamb, rice was okay, could've been cooked better and side salad was reminiscent of a greek style salad.
Gyro Fries were a nice quick snack, would love if the fries were a bit crispier and the hot sauce was actually more hot than it was tangy or sour. 8/10
I went once again to try the Lamb Gyro and I tell you, that and the gyro fries are were your money needs to be going. The gyro is a perfect balance with the meats and refreshing vegetables which mend together perfectly with the gyro sauce. personally i would mix their hot sauce with some Sriracha for some more bite. Tasted great but not mind blowing amazing. 9/10
Price is fair, you can get a good amount for a good price. Definitely coming back again!
Love this place! I always get the chicken over rice with extra corn, topping it off with extra white sauce and a little red sauce. Jones Fried Chicken is just as good but something about their food makes my stomach feel queasy, however, Gyro King is really clean! They have a selection of gyros, either lamb or chicken or both, (a veggie option as well) along with fresh squeezed juices. For someone who works out, the chicken over rice has the perfect amount of protein needed and it is worth the money for a pretty large portion in just one to go box. Don't want to wait in line or wait at all?! Download the GrubHub app, order what you want, and they will update you via email or text to let you know when it is ready to be picked up!
great quality and great flavor!!! I love everything from the rice, salads and juices!
Love their lamb over rice. Its amazing. Give it a try you wont regret it. It is also very affordable at 8 dollars a full plate
There are several reasons why I decided to check on this spot. First of all, it had such a great reputation among my colleague. Secondly, it didn't seem to be pricey and the last thing is that Gyro King is very close to my place.
So considering all this it would have been a crime to continue ignoring such an interesting Houston gem! So my impression of Gyro is immaculate! OMG all those reviews didn't lie. I haven't eaten such flavorful rice in all my life! Perfect aroma, which can feel entire restaurant space! That was definitely wonderful experience! I am planning on returning there soon!
Beats Halal guys any day of the week. You will definitely get your money's worth in terms of quantity of food. The beef/lamb mixture is far more flavorful than halal guys and the white sauce is on point. Is it the best gyro/rice platter place in Houston? Its one notch above Jones simply because it doesn't come with the stomach pains associated with indulging in Jones' Lamb over rice.
I think I've found my new favorite Greek food place (besides Fadi's ofcourse - i can go there any and everyday). The service is wonderful, place is small but clean and bright. I've only tried there combo salad so far but was impressed with variety of vegetables they included in the salad. Chicken and gyro meat were tender and juicy and had hint of indian spice.
Very good food!! Glad this is close to home . I've taken my coworkers here and they al loved the food.
Tried this place twice and they have my stamp of recommendation! I always got the lamb gyro. The second one I had was a tad too salty, but the white sauce made it better. There isn't much of a "service". It's like a fast food restaurant, you order, pay, pick up your food, leave or eat there. I never waited more than 10 mins for my food.
The restaurant has a decent size dining area, and has a counter along the walls. (more sitting area)
Luckily the location is fairly close to my home, and they stay open late! (Compared to Halal Guys)
I've had their combo which consisted of chicken and lamb and it's amazing!! (The chicken actually has flavor!! Compared to Halal Guys) It also consists of lettuce, olives, and some other things I can't think of at the moment. You add (if you want) white sauce and the red sauce (not as spicy as halal guys) at the end!
I would come back here often and try their other dishes, but probably not because I love their combo! Also, they sell soft drinks, juices, bottled water, or you can ask for a cup of water (small cup)
In conclusion, Gyro King is better than Halal Guys.
Found this place on yelp, so glad it's near me. Good food and good size portion. And
The staff was nice. Will definitely be back.
Obsessed with the chicken over rice.
Super close to my home and it closes at 12 midnight which is the best!
Amazing chicken gyro! Very tasty! Friendly staff and clean environment. Prices of gyro is $7 which is a little pricey. I had to buy French fries separately for $1.99. It would be nice to get a combo of gyro and fries for $7. But I would totally come here again!
I've been a fan of theirs since their food truck days on OST. I'm beyond happy they opened up a location that's closer to the west side. The food taste exactly the same as their food truck. Delicious and flavorful. I always get the lamb over rice or lamb gyro. Never disappoints. Don't forget extra white sauce ;)
This was one of the best restaurants i have ever been too.
It was a funny story of how we discovered this place:
My family and I were at a Persian resteraunt, when my dad met an old college friend. His guy told my dad about a new resteraunt that his friend had opened that made amazing gyros.
he said the name of the resteraunt was called Halal Guys.
So when we got home my dad asked me to search up the resteraunt. He couldn't remeber the name but he remembered that it made gyros. So i searched up gyro resteraunts and I found gyro king. It had the exact menu that his friend had told him about so we decided to go there the next day
So when we went there we ordered 2 gyros and 2 chicken over rices.
It was absolutely delicious. The chicken was nice, tender and seasoned perfectly. The rice was perfectly cooked. The hot sauce was perfectly spiced. The white sauce was flavor packing. And the vegetables were crisp and fresh.
After going to the resteraunt we found out we went to the wrong one, but we had no regret. When we went to halal guys ( the ACTUAL resteraunt my dad's friend had talked about) we were so dissatisfied. It was NOTHING compared to Gyro King.
I will recommend this resteraunt 100%.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE this place!!! I get the lamb over rice with no salad with both sauces and it's amazing each time. I always have leftovers too which is great. Great kind service. Perfect place to go to for a halal meal --or a meal in general!
This place is really as good as other reviewers are saying. The lamb chops over rice is A-MA-ZINNNNG! I definitely recommend and WILL be back. The customer service was nice as well and the restaurant is clean! All of the staff were friendly and worked together as a team which I enjoyed watching. The cooking area/kitchen was also kept very nice, organized and clean. Must visit and MUST try the lamb chops and lamb gyro!
We had catering delivered (free delivery within a five mile radius) and the food was great. We ordered the gyro platter which included choice of meat, rice, and salad. It was basically a create-your-own gyro platter but instead of pita bread, it is with rice. We did order pita bread on the side too at $1/piece. The salad was more of a topping to your gyro than an actual side salad for the party of 10. Overall we would definitely order again for our next event. It was $90 for the platter to feed 10 guests.
The downside was placing the order. At first, their computer system was down. The employees there were clueless on modifications and did not make me feel comfortable that my order was placed correctly. (I asked if we could do half chicken and half lamb/beef.) I was placed on hold and the server forgot about me and apologized after I called back. Overall, I spent about 45 minutes that day trying to place the order. HOWEVER, the order was delivered on time and delivered correctly (plenty of sauce and hot sauce included).
This is good food lamb over rice and gyros both great. Great portions and good salad. They also delivered which is always a plus. Definitely better than Halal Guys in my opinion.
Amazing gyro fries and lamb gyro. Yum...
Lamb chop over rice. DELICOUS. BEST IN HOUSTON.
Absolutely delicious!! Thank you
Excellent food with great service. The girl who gave me my order was really nice to me also. This was refreshing, as it is not the case at many other places in the area, such a "Indian Spice and Snacks", where the girl practically threw my food at me with a sneer on her face, just because I don't look like everyone else there. I am clean cut and have no tattoos, so it wasn't my image that was the problem, just something I can't put my finger on. Back to "Gyro King", Excellent food with excellent, quick, and friendly service. Five stars for sure! EDIT: I got it to go, and now that I've eaten it all, I must say that this is some AWESOME FOOD!
I had the lamb gyro and juice. Everything was ready in 5 mins. Gyro was tasty, well-cooked and well-seasoned. The drink was refreshing and complimented the food better than just a regular soda. The cashier lady was pleasant. Restaurant was clean. There was plenty of seating. Overall, great experience. I can't wait to go again. I'm glad there is another affordable and delicious food option around here. Highly recommend it.
In an epic face-off between The King vs The Guys (Halal Guys), here's the breakdown: Featuring chicken and falafel bowl.
Both The King and The Guys provided well seasoned, moist and tasty chicken. +1 each.
The King's falafels were dry, crumbly and overly salty, difficult to chew and swallow whereas the Guys' falafel were moist, soft and flavorful. +1 for the Guys
In the Fiber department (lettuce and other veggies), both gave a generous amount. However, the King provided romaine Lettuce, onions and cucumbers, whereas the Guys provided iceberg and tomatoes. I personally favor romaine over iceberg, +1 for the King.
The King serves long grain basmati rice cooked with cumin whereas the Guys had short grain rice that is orange (I'm guessing it's turmeric or paprika). Both are very good, but I slightly prefer the cumin basmati rice due to it's fragrance and taste. +1 for the King.
The Kings' white sauce was more on the tangy side, with notes of mint and I believe parsley, and reminded me of ranch dressing. Both white sauces were very good and really rounds out the meal, but only the Guy's white sauce really left me craving for more. +1 for the Guys.
King: 3 points
Guys: 3 points
Honestly, I can't say which one I like better, I feel like each has things I prefer over the other However, in the end, I would probably choose the Guys over King PURELY based on proximity, case closed.
Food is great, really fast and quick service !
Stopped for gas, tried the food at this place ..
Will come back definitely
Oh, their food is prepared perfectly, so well-seasoned and delicious! The meat is great just like the sauces to it! I have already tried their lamb and chicken and I have to admit that both were a little dry, but still tasted great as the flavors were incredible! You definitely have to visit this spot! If there is not much time, just take some food to go!
The food is great but the number of employees are not enough and it causes to not have a good customer service.
This place is legit. The price is reasonable for the amount of food they give. Location is at a gas station corner of Almeda and old spanish. The quality is very good. I have had the chicken and lamb rice and sometimes I've switched to chicken or lamb salad which is pretty good because their salad is pickled. The meat is flavorful. Sauces are pretty good, the hot sauce isn't too hot like halal guys where it feels as if the devil is in your mouth.
In my opinion the price, quality and taste is better than halal guys and jones chicken. Haven't tried their juices. Overall, great place to stop by if you're in the area.
Amazing chicken over rice and chicken gyros
I had this place bookmarked for awhile and finally had an opportunity to try it. I was in the mood for falafel and even though their specialty seems to be lamb over rice, I chose the falafel over rice. In general, I love falafel and is always a go to meat alternative for me. I love the dense texture and the flavors that somehow bamboozle me into thinking it is actually meat. I ordered the falafel and was advised that it would take approx 15 to prepare as they prepare it when you order it. I was not leaving that place w/o falafels so I waited. During my wait the guys taking my order constantly gave me updates and apologized for the wait. This is some excellent customer service in my book! But of course, what was more excellent was the plate. At first glance, 4 falafel pieces may not seem like much but believe me you they are enough and you will be full! The rice, falafel and salad pared well and the flavors were only enhanced more with their sauces. A lot of patrons were ordering the lamb over rice and lamb gyro. I think I will try that next time. Overall this place is great and I will definitely be back to try more.
This place may not seem like much, but they have delicious food! I usually get the lamb over rice! The portions are generous, I usually get two meals out of the one order. Use the yelp app for easy ordering!
The staff is nice and cordial. The meal is ready in under 10 mins. Great place for a late snack, it's open until 11pm.
If you order from this place, except to take it home or eat in your car. There isn't any seating around. But don't worry your food will stay hot for a good 20 mins. (That's how long it takes me to drive home and my food stays hot) Halal guys doesn't have anything on this place!
Ever drive by a place dozens of times and never give it a second thought? I don't know what the hell I was thinking, but after finally stopping for lunch one afternoon when my little one was home sick I can't believe I was so blind. This place is such an amazing deal for the price of the food and the guy running the truck seems super friendly.
I ended up laying it safe with lamb of rice and both white and red sauce. I noticed as I was waiting that a lot of people seem to order the lamb and chicken per their reviews, but the lamb is probably the heart of this truck anyway.
After placing my order and not more then 4 minutes or so wait, I was ready and off to find a spot to eat. Given it's close proximity to Hermann Park we stopped off there and had a quick picnic in the bluebonnets along the bayou. Will I be back again? You'd better believe it. Will it be this week, maybe tomorrow? Very good possibility :D
Yeah. I love it.
It's in an Exxon mobile station, I missed it once, twice, three time's a charm.
I just want to eat it and that creamy white and tangy red sauce all day every day. With rice. And a little salad!
Order, walk into the gas station store, get a beverage and pick up your food. Be delighted in it's deliciousness. This little gem. So close, so good.
I am thankful that this place exists, somewhere not near the Rodeo, around the VA. It's warm, delicious, garlicky, oniony, creamy, spicy layered over carbs... Ready for this?
Better Than a Burrito Bowl. BTBB. When I pay cash they round down and charge me an even dollar. That's great, goes into the tip jar. Thank you for appreciating me. I appreciate you.
OMG!!! I purchased the lamb/chicken over rice. It was so good. I pass by this place all the time and check them out on Yelp probably for the past year. I said today, March 19, 2016 will be the day I try some food. Put it like this, I will be going back soon. They even have vegetarian dishes. Don't miss out. Oh by the way it's a food truck located in the lot of Chevron.
Location: 2424 Old Spanish Trail, Houston, Tx 77054
Food truck in the middle of a gas station parking lot! The food is seasoned perfectly! The sauces are delicious and so are the meats! The chicken is a little on the dry side and so is the lamb (less so than the chicken). I wished they were a little more moist but other than that, the flavors are wonderful and everything tastes great! Stop here for a pickup to go!
This place is right down the street from my house and I always see a line and the high rating and had to check it out!
First time I checked this place out I ordered the lamb gyro and it was on point! They stuff it and the lamb is such high quality, I can't explain. I ordered with extra sauce as suggested by other yelpers and it was perfect!
The second time I ordered the lamb over rice with the white and red sauce as also suggested by other yelpers and it was incredible! I was stuffed by the portions they give you.
I have ordered juice B and D and I'm not a fan of either. I need some sweet fruit or something in it. But I hate vegetable juice so I know it's my problem.
Will be going back forever.
When I looked up Gyro King on Yelp, I thought it was a sit down restaurant, but its actually a food truck! It looks kind of sketchy since its right next to a gas station, but the food is definitely worth it.
On this visit, I tried their combo platter, which was comprised of a variety of meats, including lamb and chicken. Gyro King definitely doesn't skimp on the protein like other places. There was so more meat than rice in the platter.
Anytime I am in the surrounding area, I will be sure to make another visit to Gyro King! I'm ready to try all of their wraps and platters!
Tastiness! Call ahead if you're ordering falafels they do tend to run out of them at the end of the day. F type coming for the first time, It's a big yellow truck at the corner of a gas station. They do prepare the food when you order so make sure you're ready to wait for at least 15 mins if there's no line. The boyfriend LOVED the amount of food you get for under 10 bucks and its true. I had enough food for dinner and lunch the next day.
The food is absolutely falvorful!
The lamb and chicken was a hit for my friends.
You can also order ahead through grubhub.
When I stepped out of the car, I didn't even smell the usual wave of gasoline that comes with being at a gas station. I was so ready. This is in the Chevron gas station. There's a Shell across the street so to clarify "it's in a gas station parking lot," it's at the Chevron.
There are a few parking spots right next to the truck as well as some closer to OST. I've seen people park at a gas pump, which I found to be rude. Like what if I was trying to pump gas and all the pumps were full of people ordering food and not pumping gas at all?
I went on a Thursday at about 6 p.m. Traffic on OST was horrible coming from the Medical Center. Don't come from that way during rush hour. There was about 5 people ahead of us that were either in line to order or waiting for their order. People came and went steadily while we were there.
We ordered the lamb over rice and D juice. The juice was very refreshing and pretty tasty. As for the entree, I thought it was good, not like Halal Guys, but still good. The amount of food was meh. I wish there was more (don't we always). The veggies added a nice fresh aspect to the meal.
All in all, I would come here again if I got the craving for it without question.
Loving this truck...used to go to Jones Fried Chicken...but it is so far out the way for me....this place is on my direct path home. Good thing about it being on a food truck is that your food is always so fresh unlike Jones's is sitting out on buffet line and the rice seems a bit dry. Food here is so tasty, lamb, chicken, shrimp, fish (grilled or fried), falafel. I have tried them all thus far except the shrimp and falafel...though they are on my list. They also deliver which you don't see many food trucks doing. This is a must try food truck and less expensive them so others I have seen.
I have been to Gyro King a few times since its close to my work (near the Medical Center). This food truck/trailer is located in the same parking lot as a gas station. But don't let this fool you, its definitely worth a try if you have not been here.
The food is fresh and service is great. I have only had the lamb gyros and lamb rice bowls. The white and spice sauces makes the dish even more amazing.
Nom nom nom! I love this place! I've been wanting to try this place out since forever!
LAMB OVER RICE
The lamb is flavorful and seasoned so well. I love that it tastes so fresh. I love the fresh greens and how the cucumber adds a refreshing taste and a crunch and the lettuce are so good. I only wish that there were onions, tomatoes, or some corn. I ordered and brought it home and added a whole container full of tomatoes to it. The dish was missing some acidity and the tomatoes were a great addition to it. Other than that, it was amazing!
The lamb is so flavorful and I love that the gyro is filled with goodies and it's not half empty or filled up only a little bit. It's completely filled! Everything was perfect! Every bite had a mouthful of lamb, onions, and lettuce. It was so good!
The service was amazing and very friendly. The guy told me the total was $16, but gave me a 50% discount because it was my first time there. He was very helpful and nice. I definitely will be coming back for sure. I just wish they were closer. It takes me about an hour to get here. I can't wait to go back and eat some more.
